How to Use a Pull Tape

When laying a cabled system, you need to have a way of pulling the cables through strained points, as well as pulling its ends to a common area for joining. In such instances, the use of a fishing tape is recommended. The pull tape is typically a brained rope-like tape used for pulling through the cables to the desired ends. With the various types of fishing tapes available in the market, you need to choose the right tape that matches your needs. Irrespective of the tape chose, their use for the job is universally the same. Here’s how to use the tape in laying a cable.

Step 1: Pull out the tape

In the first step, you need to remove the pull tape from the cover, or reel. The hook should be covered with the phasing tape before coating it with an appropriate lubricant. For short distance cabling, the above process should effectively serve the purpose. For longer distances, proceed to step 2.

Step 2: Manipulation phase

Longer cabling distances require more tactical pulling of the tape. Here, the pull tape should be manipulated by having both ends held in a common place, and the cable being hooked onto the mid-point of the tape. When pulled from the end through the constricted area, the tape should effectively flow.

Step 3: Make loops

More challenging cabling might require the pull tape to be intertwined with the cable, with specific loops being made at different points. This makes pulling of both the cable and the tape possible. A more professional approach to this phase would be gluing the tape on the cable, especially in instances where the cable is weak and can easily break when stretched for longer distances.
